Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Distinctive Features

Although there is only one example of this amphora in Keay (1984), it has a quite distinctive body shape, piriform with a compression towards the base. There are traces of horizontal ribbing. It was 76.5 cm high and 37.5 cm wide, and the base below the compression comprised a hemisphere with a small button-foot. The upper section comprised a larger hemispherical shoulder which blended into a low and squat neck. The rim had a simple squared profile with no apparent lip. The handles were semi-circular, ovoid to round in section. Keay (1984: 266) mentions a similar amphora found at Empúries (Nolla, 1974/5: 189, Fig. 27.1; 151, Fig. 3), though it lacked the compression in the body and the foot was more pronounced.
