Distinctive Features

A very small amphora with a large collar rim to which both handles are joined. The base is a small enclosed point, not really a spike. It was first identified by Dias Diogo and classified as Lusitana 10 (1991) .

Date Range

No well-dated context is known, but the form seems to be late in date.

Origin

Some examples are known from Setúbal and Tróia, on both banks of the mouth of the river Sado in Portugal. The fabric characteristics clearly indicate a local production.

No good evidence. Maybe some variety of fish-sauce, since the type seems to be produced at kiln centres near fish processing factories.
