Digital Object Identifiers

Verulamium White Ware fabric

Fabric Visual Characteristics

Hard, rough, granular fabric, usually white (2.5YR 9/0-5/0 or off-white (10YR 9/1) in colour (Davies et alii, 1994).

Fabric Petrological Characteristics

A clean clay matrix with frequent well-sorted multi-coloured grains of quartz scattered throughout, 0.1-0.8mm in size. Also present are sparse red iron-rich inclusions and occasional pieces of ferruginous sandstone (Davies et alii, 1994).
