The Edward the Elder Conference

Manchester Centre for Anglo-Saxon Studies, University of Manchester

6.iv.99 - 8.iv.99

We are planning a major congress on Edward the Elder at Easter 1999 to mark the 11th centenary of his accession. Edward's reign has been over shadowed by that of his more famous father, yet of the two it is he who had the better claim to be remembered as the founder of the nation state of England. He was additionally the Anglo-Saxon King responsible for the foundation of the burh at Manchester, and it is partly on account of that connection that the Manchester Centre for Anglo-Saxon Studies in the University of Manchester is hosting this event. We are therefore canvassing colleagues in the field for their support and advice. If you have suggestions or you wish to be added to the mailing list please contact:

Dr David Hill, Manchester Centre for Anglo-Saxon Studies, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL fax: 0161 275 3256
