British-German Academic Research Collaboration (ARC) Programme

ARC supports two types of exchanges between research groups in Britain and Germany working in related fields:

  1. exploratory visits to establish the potential for collaboration or to formulate proposals (for ARC or other support).
  2. visits which are part of an agreed ARC collaborative project.

Grants are offered as contributions towards travel and living costs only. There is no element in the grant to cover bench fees, staff or running costs, equipment, consumables and other expenses. Grants are not provided for studentships or for conference attendance. Project applications of up to three years' duration will be considered. Attachment to the collaborators' institution in excess of 3 months can only be considered in exceptional circumstances. The British Council will award grants to British research groups visiting Germany. Grants are based on standard return travel units and a subsistence rate of £70 per day up to 5 days, thereafter at a rate of £350 per week.

Applications for exploratory visits can be made at any time and are processed within two weeks of receipt. Collaborative Projects are selected annually, in June. The annual closing date for applications is 31 December.
