Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction

Excavation photograph

This project focussed upon the 'cover sand' deposits of North Lincolnshire and used a variety of prospection techniques to identify possible archaeological sites that were then investigated via excavation. A number of analytical techniques were then tested with a view to gauging their effectiveness with these types of deposits. The results obtained are positive, with clear potential for further work. They show the capability of these techniques to both aid in the identification of archaeological remains and in the analysis of those sites. This represents a significant step forward as the 'cover sand' deposits face threats from extraction, agriculture and heathland regeneration programmes.
