Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Small Finds - Scheme Wide Research Report

The 'Small Finds' category in the CTRL Section 1 archive includes all metalwork (coins, metal-working residues and metallurgical studies are reported in sub-sections within small finds reports, where relevant). Separate reports on additional functional sub-categories have been written for the large Anglo-Saxon metalwork assemblage from Saltwood Tunnel - listed separately below).

The 'Small Finds' reports and datasets also include worked bone, window and vessel glass, fired clay objects (eg. loomweights) and worked stone objects (except prehistoric worked and burnt flint, which are grouped in the 'Lithics' category). Structural fired clay and ceramic building material are included, with pottery, in the 'Ceramics' specialist category.

Unlike the other main specialist categories, there is NO Scheme Wide Research Report, as the diversity of material, and relatively small assemblage sizes (other than the cemetery assemblages) would make any schemewide comparison meaningless.
