Overview

The digital archive comprises all the files necessary to print off the full text of the report Defence Areas: a national study of Second World War anti-invasion landscapes in England. The order of the report is as set out in the file 'DA Report CONTENTS'. Each of 67 defence areas has been numbered in accordance with the file 'DA Report DEFENCE AREAS LIST'. The report on each area consists of the text with illustrations, the components of defence, and location and defence maps. Each of these files begins with the appropriate defence area number, e.g. DA49. There is also an Introduction and Overview, a Bibliography, a Place Name Index, national and regional maps, and a key to the symbols used on the defence maps.

Each of the individual reports is self-contained other than for the map symbols key. If being read consecutively, however, it is recommended that the order by which the reports are arranged in the Contents be followed.
