Battery position of 387 Coast Defence Battery (522 Coast Regiment). 2 x 6in guns and 1 x 4.5in howitzer. Three officers and 80 other ranks. Cassini ref. 994056. [Document gives position as 'Abbotsbury Castle', which is further north - for this 994076 would be a more likely reference: however, 994056 is given in more than one documentary source and 993056 and 994057 in others]. In 1944 the battery was under 'care and maintenance'.

Air photograph shows two gun emplacements, with a further rectangular structure (probably of the battery) adjacent to the N.
