Well constructed type 24 pillbox [on the Western Command Tamworth to Manchester line. Using the Macclesfield Canal as the major topographical feature]. Unsually positioned some distance from canal and faces west - ['I would have expected an eastward orientation but defences on canal appear to face both directions'. Defences along stop lines were constructed in depth and to give the maximum covering fire to other positions. Additionally many Western Command stop lines were constructed to defend against enemy operations moving from the Liverpool area, the north west coast and Wales (via possible bases In Ireland) as well as forming defensive positions against movement from the east].
