Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction to the Solent Seascapes Project: Online version of the Multimedia

The content of the web-pages below are the result of an English Heritage initiative to preserve and disseminate the results of the full scope of work undertaken under the Seascapes ALSF grant. Solent Seascapes is a project funded by English Heritage through the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.

The England's Historic Seascapes Programme seeks to apply the principles of HLC to the inter-tidal and marine environment up to the limit of UK Controlled Waters. The Solent and Isle of Wight study area Marine HLC project was undertaken by the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology (HWTMA), Bournemouth University (BU) and Southampton University (SU). This coastal and marine area is diverse and dynamic, it includes the coastal area of the Solent, and Isle of Wight (approx 150 mile stretch of coastline). This pilot is one of five such projects which contributed to the development of marine HLC in English waters.

The project involved building a GIS model with an attached database to be used as a tool to inform the long-term management of the marine historic environment. The characterisation of the historic landscape of the inter-tidal, coastal and marine zone will help facilitate an integrated approach to spatial planning in the future.
