Resource identifiers

  • ADS Collection: 935
  • ALSF Project Number: 4730
  • doi:10.5284/1000104
  • How to cite using this DOI
  • Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

    Citing this DOI

DOIs should be the last element in a citation irrespective of the format used. The DOI citation should begin with "doi:" in lowercase followed by the DOI with no spaces between the ":" and the DOI.

    doi:10.5284/1000104

DOIs can also be cited as a persistent link from another Web page. This is done by appending the DOI Resolver with the DOI. This would look like:

    http://dx.doi.org/10.5284/1000104

However, if it is possible it is best to hide the URL in the href property of the <a> tag and have the link text be of the form doi:10.5284/1000104. The HTML for this would look like:

    <a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.5284/1000104">doi:10.5284/1000104</a>

Introduction

The project was carried out by the Museum of London Archaeology Service (MoLAS) on behalf of English Heritage, and was been funded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF).

The project is part of the second round of seascapes analysis funded by the ALSF; the first round was carried out by Wessex Archaeology at Liverpool Bay. This project attempts to develop the ideas developed as part of this Wessex project and apply them to a different coastal area.

Withernsea to Skegness study area

The Withernsea to Skegness project study area

The pilot area runs between Withernsea in Yorkshire to Skegness in Lincolnshire, including the Humber Estuary, and extends out into the open sea as far as the median line with Holland. The overall aim of the project is to map and interpret current sea uses in the pilot area, with a view to identifying historic significance of the maritime environment.

Historic Seascape Characterisation (HSC) is based on the principles of Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC), which is a way of describing and displaying the historic cultural character of the landscape we perceive today. The character map created provides a broader understanding of the heritage of an area, providing context to a range of other aspects, including the individual historic sites and monuments.

England's Historic Seascapes is a programme of pilot projects developing a methodology for mapping the historic character of our coastal and marine environment.

Four more project areas were commissioned:
