The Northumberland was lost on the Goodwin Sands during the Great Storm of 26-27 November 1703. The wreck was discovered in 1980 and shortly after designated under the protection of Wrecks Act 1973. In 2018 Pascoe Archaeology was commissioned by Historic England to conduct an underwater archaeological assessment of the wreck. This was necessary as the results of two consecutive multi-beam echo-sounder (MBES) surveys (2017 and 2018) had demonstrated the site was uncovering. Comparisons between the two multi-beam bathymetry data sets identified that the local bedforms surrounding the site were moving in a NNE direction. This is migrating seabed sediments away from the site, placing it in a region of seabed erosion. As a result, significant archaeological features are now exposed. The fieldwork was conducted between the 18-24 August 2018, by a collaborative team led by Pascoe Archaeology. MSDS Marine acted as the diving contractor and diving operations were conducted from the Dive Support Vessel (DSV), Neptune. The dive team consisted of members of MSDS Marine, Bournemouth University and Sea Dive Organisation. The assessment of the Northumberland site has identified new and significant archaeology on the surface and demonstrates the potential for a lot more beneath the sand. Should the seabed sediments continue to reduce then further material will be exposed and at risk.

This report presents a Stage 4 geoarchaeological assessment (analysis and dating) for the Gunfleet Sands 03 (GFS03) Demonstration Project on behalf of DONG Energy. The key aim of this Stage 4 report was to provide an account of the successive environments within the coring area, a model of environmental change over time, and an outline of the archaeological implications of the analysis. This analysis has confirmed that the Holocene deposit formed in a wetland estuarine environment that became inundated around 7081-6831 Cal BC (SUERC-54108). The ecology represented by diatoms, microfauna, pollen, and macrofossils, shows that the area was mainly a brackish coastal saltmarsh with a possible freshwater input. The proximity of the site to dry land and woodlands is indicated by regional flora comprising oak (Quercus) and hazel (Corylus) also with some indications of elm (Ulmus) and beech (Fagus). The archaeological record from this period has demonstrated both estuarine and freshwater settings that are attractive for human occupation.

Prior to the installation of the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm, Project One ('the Project'), an archaeological review of 3 boreholes and 5 Wireline Push Samples was undertaken by Maritime Archaeology Ltd in 2015. This followed two previous geoarchaeological assessments undertaken in 2011 (Krawiec et al. 2011) and 2013 (Wessex Archaeology, 2013). This report should be considered as a supplement to the previously submitted reports.

Maritime Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Hornsea Project One

Maritime Archaeology Ltd. was commissioned by DONG Energy Wind Power A/S to provide a Stage 2 assessment and sub-sampling of geotechnical boreholes recovered from the intertidal zone relating to the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm Project One (the Project). This 'Core Recording and Core Sampling' comprises detailed recording and sampling of core samples of interest identified from the Stage 1 core log review (Maritime Archaeology, 2017). Previous geoarchaeological reports covering the Project area were reviewed and recommendations for further Stage 3 work to be undertaken have subsequently been recommended.
