Aircraft Hanger, Little Staughton Airfield, Little Staughton, Huntingdonshire. Report on Archaeological Evaluation. Trial Trenching
Coates
Richmond
During May 2020 Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd carried out an archaeological trench evaluation across a proposed Aircraft Hanger on land at Little Staughton Airfield, Little Staughton, Huntingdonshire. The work was carried out on behalf of IAE Ltd and forms an archaeological evaluation required to assess the archaeological character of the site. The evaluation forms information required to inform the Planning Application (19/02613/FUL). The site lies in an area of known archaeology, predominantly dating from the Iron Age and Roman periods. The site lies withtin the World War 2 Littkle Staughton Military Airfield, developed in 1942 as a USAAF Bomber Station and decommissioned in 1946. Five trial trenches were excavated in order to appropriately evaluate the site. No archaeological deposits or finds were encountered during the trenching exercise. Deep overburden deposits were encountered durng the trenching exercise, which is likely a result of the extensive landscaping of this part of the Airfield during the War.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL EVALUATION TRIAL TRENCHING MANOR FARM HIGH STREET OFFORD D'ARCY HUNTINGDONSHIRE
G Jones
During December 2019 Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation across a permitted development site on land at Manor Farm, High Street, Offord D'Arcy, Huntingdonshire (NGR TL 2184 6610). The work was carried out on behalf of Thornhill Estates, and was required to assess the presence, extent, nature and survival of archaeological features within the development area. The proposals are for housing together with associated landscaping, internal roads and open spaces. The site lies in a landscape where archaeology of Bronze Age, Iron Age, Medieval and post-Medieval date has previously been recorded. In consultation with the Council Archaeological Office, 6 trial trenches were agreed to be excavated within the development boundary. Little of archaeological interest was found. Indeed, the only features identified were pits and a ditch of post-Medieval date, footings associated with 20th century farm buildings and an undated ditch. Most of these features were identified close to the street frontage. Aside from a residual flint flake, no finds pre-dating the post-Medieval period were recovered
