Abstract: |
Watching brief during during excavations by Scottish and Southern Energy for a new underground power cable at Kingshouse, Glencoe. At one location, the cable trench cut across the 18th-century military road that runs through Glencoe. The trench, which was excavated by machine, measured 8m N/S by 0.7m wide and became waterlogged immediately although it was possible to determine the character of the road. At this point, it comprised a mere 300mm of gravel sitting directly on peat with no trace of the boulders and pebbles that were supposed to constitute the road's foundations. |
