Abstract:
The site was within the medieval manor of Williamthorpe, and was located to the south of the 18th-century Williamthorpe Hall, which may have been located on the site of a medieval manor house. By the 19th century, the site was depicted as fields, becoming allotments associated with miners' housing in the early 20th century. Towers supporting an aerial ropeway for Williamthorpe Colliery were shown within the site in 1938 and 1962. Current features within the site are related to the derelict allotment gardens. The potential for remains associated with medieval settlement at Williamthorpe is unclear, and the current understanding of below-ground conditions is poor. The proposed development is within the immediate vicinity of a Grade II Listed building. The impact of the development on the setting of the building is considered to be low.
