Abstract: |
Repairs to the erosion of a cross-base on the western summit of St Michael's Mount were carried out under archaeological supervision in May 2003. Associated archaeogical recording showed the cross-shaft is probably of 16th century date and is not in situ. However it may have been in the location it now occupies for about three hundred years or so, even though many modern visitors know it as the 'St Michael Stone', and venerate it as the place where the Archangel Michael made his appearance on the Mount! It is also believed to be the focus of the St Michael ley line. |
