Abstract:
North Pennines Heritage Trust was commissioned to undertake an archaeological desk-based assessment of an area of land adjacent to 1 Irish Street, Maryport. The site comprises an area of open ground, with localised areas of concrete, self-cemented slag and sparse grass cover. Research found the site lay undeveloped until a foundry was constructed sometime between 1850 and 1900. This was demolished after 1969 and the site has remained undeveloped since.
