Abstract: |
This is s report of archaeological trenching on land in Theatre Street Woodbridge. This small evaluation consisted of one 2m by 3m trench and one 1 by 1 metre trial hole in advance of a new dwelling. The trench opened (trench 10 revealed a brick floor of 19th century date just below the compacted gravel drive/hardstand and a series of demolition spreads from the presumed building/house that stood on the site until the mid-twentieth century. The trial hole revealed no archaeology but showed that leveling had taken place to incorporate the building (now demolished). No other archaeology or earlier features than the 18th-19th centuries were revealed. The site had been truncated by the recently demolished building, removing any evidence of earlier occupation on the site. |
