Abstract:		 A Level 2 building survey undertaken of a redundant agricultural building prior to proposed conversion to domestic use. The work was required as a condition of the planning application as the site is shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey mapping of c.1865, and is therefore regarded as being of historic interest. Prior to the building survey on site a rapid desk-based assessment was undertaken in order to place the site into its historic context. The rapid assessment revealed that there appears to have been a property known as Cragg Hill since at least 1603, as a site of that name is mentioned in the Survey of Gilsland. The building survey revealed that the buildings that survive appear to be late 19th or early 19th century in date. A building located to the east of the survey buildings was noted to contain a much earlier gable from a building of unknown date and function
