Abstract: |
South West Archaeology (SWARCH) undertook a watching brief of groundworks undertaken as a condition of planning consent on an area probably formerly the location of a medieval open or common field system. The north to south access road and the east access road were stripped of subsoil to weathered shale. A number of pairs of linear features were revealed. These boundary ditches indicated that the site was a medieval field system. In the fill of almost all of these ditches medieval pottery was found. Two other features were recorded, the first a possible hearth, of medieval date. The second was an ovoid pit the fill of which contained six sherds of Middle Bronze Age pottery. |
