Abstract: |
Trenches at the N end of the site revealed part of the channel and the base of the weir for the water power to the 19th century mill. A trench at the S end of the site cut through deep deposits of dumped ash and cinder from the mill. A standing building survey was undertaken on Don Cottage a Category B listed building which had been severely damaged by fire with only a shell remaining. Built in the 1830s/ 1840s, it had been a 2-storied harled brick villa with french windows at ground floor level and a balcony at 1st floor level supported by rustic style timber columns. |
