Abstract: |
An archaeology and cultural heritage assessment was undertaken for the proposed development site. There were no archaeological remains recorded within the development site. The assessment indicated that the surrounding area has been utilised from the prehistoric period onwards, although the focus of settlement appeared to have been on higher ground to the west of the development site. From the medieval period onwards there was increased utilisation of the marshes for summer pasture. The area immediately west of the development site was quarried and used for tipping in the early 20th century and this may have encroached onto the site. Modern development of a block works and waste processing plant on the site are likely to have removed any archaeological remains present on the site. The proposed development requires limited groundworks and therefore it is not anticipated that archaeological remains will be affected. The site is within an area which is already developed for industry and therefore there will be no effects upon the historic landscape character or setting of heritage features. |
