Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out at a development site site known to fall into the Roman settlement site. The evaluation indicated that Roman archaeology had survived within the yard area to the rear of the properties which originally fronted Barton Street and Southern Street. A timber building dating to the Hadrianic-early Antonine period and two Roman ditches were found. The ditches were probably linked with a ditch system found at Barton Street which were part of an early military annexe which surrounded the earliest Roman fort at Manchester. [Au(adp)] |
