Abstract: |
<summary>An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a railway yard where previous excavation had revealed prehistoric finds and Roman pottery. A possible Bronze Age cemetery lay to the north-east. During the evaluation, evidence of human activity from the Neolithic onwards was found. Iron Age and Roman features included ditches, pits, post holes, a horse burial and an inhumation. Walls belonging to the medieval Stratford Langthorne Abbey were encountered. Medieval or possibly Saxon skeletal remains were found. It was recommended that excavations should be carried out in areas of the site where preservation {italon}in situ{italoff} would be impracticable. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
