Abstract:
A watching brief was undertaken during ground disturbance associated with footworks and trench excavations. Ground levels across the bridge had been disturbed by the installation of services during the last 100 years. However, the works exposed a number of previously unidentified archaeological features, including a large stone built structure, possibly part of an 18th century toll gate. The small assemblage of pottery collected dates entirely to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. [Au(abr)]
