Abstract:		 A water pipeline was installed across part of Friston Forest and Lullington Heath National Nature Reserve in early 2008 as part of the Friston Forest Grazing Project. The pipeline passed along the edge of the Archaeologically Sensitive Area in Lullington Heath, and across a number of prehistoric field lynchets. An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the work, with large quantities of prehistoric flintwork being recovered from along the entire route of the pipeline. Sections were also recorded through a number of the field lynchets. The dating evidence suggests that these field lynchets may have originated during the Bronze Age, although there was also evidence for earlier activity in the Neolithic period. Evidence was also recovered confirming the use of this area for training during the Second World War.
