Abstract:		 <summary>Small-scale excavations and a borehole survey were undertaken at the pond to determine the condition and stability of the pond sediments and to gain some understanding of its construction and date range. The pond would appear to have been constructed by a combination of erecting a bank and exploiting a natural slope to create a hollow. The pond was partly paved, with the remainder being sealed with clay. A paved shelf is suspected to run around the inside edge. No firm conclusions could be made as to date or function, although the presence of two other ponds nearby suggested a system of fishponds or reservoirs supplying the farms on Abbey plain. {italon}AIP{italoff}
