Abstract: |
Hadrian's Wall was not identified in any of the trenches, although an earthen railway embankment constructed in 1861 was still extant. Modern debris and overburden survived to a depth of over 2.00m. In a small sondage, alluvial silt survived to a depth of 2.00m resting above natural sand suggesting that any putative Roman deposits may survive at a depth below 3.00-4.00m beneath current ground level. |
