Abstract:
Archaeological excavation undertaken in advance of the eastern extension of Glenmuckloch Surface Mine. An earlier Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Chapter for an EIA identified a number of above ground heritage assets of possible medieval or post medieval date. The archaeological investigation was undertaken over 15 days in February and March 2012. The excavation was centred on what proved to be two substantial buildings and an associated midden, along with possible field boundaries. It was possible that the buildings represented the remains of a shieling. The scarcity of domestic refuse suggested that the site was not intensively occupied
