Abstract: |
A scheme of archaeological monitoring was conducted during the groundworks for the construction of new services and extensions to Church Cottage, Biscathorpe, Gayton le Wold. An imported buried soil, very likely associated with the landscaping of the adjacent Biscathorpe Park and the construction of Church Cottage, was revealed. Earlier stone rubble foundations were also recorded, though it remains unclear whether these also formed part of the landscaping, or are remains of an earlier structure on the site. A residual sherd of medieval pottery and a fragment of Roman tile were recovered from the buried soil layer. |
