Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in July 2002, during the construction of a new barn on South Field Down, Sydling St Nicholas (SY 6238 9676) for English Nature. The southern edge of the barn was on the line of the bank of the large Early Iron Age enclosure on Hog Cliff Hill, which was visible as an earthwork in the 1960s and was investigated by Philip Rahtz in 1959-60 (Ellison and Rahtz 1987). No trace of the bank was observed during the groundworks, indicating that it has been completely ploughed out. |
