Abstract: |
The grounds of this 19th-century house contain a tower, part of the original post-medieval Viewbank House; building recording and excavation around the base of this tower confirmed this. A stone dated 1692 and 1633 built into the side of this tower was a later addition and may not be associated with this property. A bunker in the garden was recorded prior to demolition and determined to have been a World War II air-raid shelter with elaborate granite façade. A field evaluation of the remaining land, revealed no features of archaeological significance. |
