Abstract: |
Watching brief during the removal of maritime club rush from within a bucket pot for a former saltworks on the S side of the Montrose Basin. Three trenches were cut across the 10m-wide bucket pot to determine whether the pot had been timber-lined. No trace of timber or associated ghostings was noted although the trenches inundated immediately they were dug. However, timbers might have completely decayed because of the periodic inundations and drying experienced on the site. Altrnatively, the pots might not have been lined, silt and other materials in the seawater perhaps depositing out in settling ponds behind the salterns on higher ground to the S and E. |
