Abstract: |
The village of Torksey (Lincolnshire) has long been of archaeological interest. Numerous research and rescue excavations have been undertaken over the last 40 years and these have demonstrated the changing nature of land use and occupation, from late Anglo-Saxon burial and pottery production, through medieval religious buildings to post-medieval housing. From the 4th to 8th July 2011 five test pits were excavated in gardens and paddocks in the village of Torksey. The programme of test pitting was undertaken as part of the Viking Torksey project, a collaboration between the Universities of Sheffield and York and the British Museum. Further information about this project can be found at http://www.york.ac.uk/archaeology/research/current-projects/torksey/. |
