Abstract: |
In November 2004 Archaeological Solutions carried out a Phase 1 Non-Intrusive Archaeological Survey of land at Water Orton, Birmingham, in advance of the construction of 4 electricity pylons on behalf of AMEC Earth and Environmental UK Ltd. The site lies west of Water Orton between the Birmingham to Leicester railway and the M6. There are several earthworks within approximately 1km of the assessment site including a probable castle mound to the south-west and a moated manor site to the south. There is some evidence to suggest the assessment site was located within a medieval deer park and that some relict woodland might still survive (SMR 04562 and 04563). Other than possible post-medieval field boundaries or drainage ditches there is no other archaeological or historical evidence to suggest human activity or occupation immediately adjacent to the assessment area. |
