Abstract:		 A cultural heritage assessment undertaken as part of a review of the existing planning permission at Blaxter Quarry on Raylees Common. The assessment established heritage assets within the study area and identified predicted effects (including upon the setting of designated assets). Information sources included the Northumberland HER, English Heritage Archive, Northumberland Archives and libraries for published, photographic and cartographic data, and a site walkover inspection. Within the development area these indicated that the area was devoid of occupation until small scale mineral extraction in the 19th century, which subsequently expanded to include a new road and later railway, and associated buildings and infrastructure, including substantial spoil heaps. Mitigation by photographic survey and archaeological investigation proposed.
