Abstract: |
A small excavation was carried out in deposits forming the floor of a late 18th-early 19th century Ice House, situated in the south-west angle of the 12th century Keep. The investigation aimed to establish if the Ice House had been dug through the foundations of the Keep, and if so did any pre-12th century features or deposits survive below, and to seek any evidence that the Ice House might have been formed out of a medieval mural chamber. |
