Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was conducted to establish as far as possible the nature and extent of any archaeology likely to be affected by the construction of a new raw water main at Skinnet, Melness, Sutherland. No Scheduled Monuments or Listed Buildings are on the 2.5km route itself although Talmine Water Mill (NMRS NC565E21) to the north of the trench line is Scheduled together with land to its south-west running as far as Manse Bridge. The offices of Highland Council Historic Environment Record were visited, but no archaeological reports were found relevant to the water-line. The area has been investigated before in 1996 when First Edition Survey Project carried out by RCAHMS to locate unroofed buildings on the First Edition O.S 1:10560 maps. (NC56SE22) |
