Abstract:
This report was commissioned by the Neil Grinnall Homes (the client) in order to assess the likely survival of archaeologically sensitive deposits at the site known as the Brooklyn Ford Car Sales showroom in Bath Road, Worcester. The available archaeological and cartographic records indicate that the area has always been a low-lying marshy area used for pasture. The area only became developed in the early part of the19th century following the opening of the Birmingham and Worcester Canal. Whilst some evidence relating to the use of the site in Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods may survive beneath the 20th century buildings currently on the site, the deposits most likely to retain the best preserved part of the archaeological record are the sealed beds of alluvial material underlying the site. These have the potential to provide information about the Frog Brook and the general environment of the area.
