Abstract:
Evaluation trenching was carried out in advance of a proposed development. The area was drained and built on following the diversion of the River Frome in 1240-7. The northern part of the area was removed by basements in the early 20th century and here a drainage ditch was found which predated occupation on the site. In the southern part of the site archaeological deposits and features survived to a much greater degree. Here the remains of 18th and 19th century buildings were found and it was expected that medieval and early post-medieval features and deposits survived beneath them. [Au(adp)]
