Overview

St Stephen's Lane, Ipswich - IAS3104

This dataset is part of a wider project to disseminate the consolidated archive of the internationally significant excavations in Ipswich town centre between 1974 and 1990 in order to provide a web-based resource for future research proposals.

A total of 36 major archaeological interventions (on 34 IAS reference sites) took place between 1974 and 1990. These sites all lie within the historic core of the town; 27 within the Anglo-Saxon and medieval defences, and nine within the medieval suburbs.

The archive for St Stephen's Lane, Ipswich contains the following files:

  • Reports
    • As well as the Site Summary containing information on the circumstances of the excavation, the funding bodies, the stratigraphic sequence and the finds, there are 9 specialist reports available.
  • Images
    • There are 2642 images available including: 63 plan drawings; 542 section drawings; 635 site photos; 330 finds photos; 192 finds drawings; 70 finds slide scans and 810 finds x-rays.
  • GIS
    • The GIS shapefiles, available as 3 zip files, consist of the Development Area, Extent of Excavation and Feature Boundaries.
  • Spreadsheet
    • There is one spreadsheet- Table 1 from the Manufacturing Waste report.
