Introduction

Little Orchard, Hemp Lane, Wigginton. Archaeological Observation and Recording (OASIS ID: kdkarcha1-190362)

In October 2014 KDK Archaeology Ltd undertook a programme of observation and recording at Little Orchard, Wigginton, Hertfordshire. Approximately half of the proposed building's footprint had to be reduced to the natural geology in order to create a level site prior to the excavation of footings trenches. This, together with the observations made during the footing excavations indicated that the site was probably levelled by an unknown amount to create a platform when the previous, now demolished, house was built and the area landscaped as part of that construction project. No archaeological cut features, deposits or artefacts were noted.
