Introduction

Lightoaks, Oakamoor - Level 2 /3 Building Record (OASIS ID: melmorri1-234533)

A Level 2 / 3 building recording investigation was undertaken of the Stableblocks at Lightoaks, Cheadle Road, Oakamoor, Staffordshire attached to the grade II listed building Lightoaks. This complied with a condition of listed building consent and planning permission.

The buildings revealed much about the social history of the site and the status of the occupants throughout the 19th century, those with the wealth and the means to be able to employ a large number of staff and to maintain buildings which were largely for leisure purposes. The buildings were largely intact from the original late Georgian phase of development, circa 1823-27, and arguably of listable quality in their own right, with an original symmetrical arrangement of paired stableblocks with original brickwork, windows and doors to the courtyard elevations.
