Description: | Gravel spread |
Notes: | Gravel spread between NW side of Building 1 and SE corner of House 1. Edge defined by truncations to the north, east, west and less clearly to the south. Variable gravel within the surface and coloured by underlying contexts (clay, silt and different gravel). Probably large area of hardstanding to the south of House 1 - this part surviving at the south east side. Completely removed in 2002. Composition: | Compact, dark greyish brown silty sand. Inclusions: >70% stone of all shapes and ranging in size from 2mm to 20cm; CBM 11m (N-S) x 9.2m (E-W) x 0.03-0.1m (variable depth) Edges defined by Victorian intrusions |
