Introduction

Archaeological Watching Brief on boreholes in advance of the St Denys Flood Risk project, Southampton (SOU1645)

Six boreholes were observed in the St Denys area of Southampton, where Roman and medieval sites are known. The purpose of the fieldwork was to make a record of the deposits that survived beneath the surface, whether archaeological or natural.

None of the boreholes produced archaeological evidence, but they showed that the geology was River Terrace deposits over London Clay. No finds were collected.
