Further Information: Blackhill Quarry cannot be found on the 1851 O.S. Map, but a small sandstone quarry nearby at (426900, 442582) can be seen. A quarry is worked here today producing crushed stone, sand and some building stone. It is not quite as coarse grained as that which was in demand for engineering works during the 19th century, and there are many old quarries in the area (Leary 1986: 82).
