Further Information: No quarries can be seen on the 1872 - 74 O.S. Map, but two underground mines have been discovered by cavers in the 1960s around the site of Quarry Dean Farm. One has been named 'Quarry Dean' which may well be of Elizabethan age although reworked in later times, the other is named 'Football Field Quarry' (National Association of Mining History Organisations 2005).
