Further Information: Quarrying of the cliffs at Winspit probably started soon after 1673. By 1772 the freestone quarries were already quite extensive at Winspit with further extensions to the east of Winspit Quarry, quarrying continued intermittently according to demand into the 19th century (Stanier 2000: 91-92). Two quarries operated at this location these are East and West Winspit.
