Quarries

General Comments:

This stone was worked at least from the middle of the 16th century until the early 20th century. It was largely extracted by underground mining, but some earlier workings were in open quarries on Sheldon Moor. The two main early mines were Arrock and Rookery Plantation Mine with limited quarrying in Nettler Dale (Tomlinson 1996: 12).

Known Quarries: Arrock Mines, Ashford, Derbys,
Rookery Mine, Ashford, Derbys.
